Finding "Higher Self"

Really great piece from Deepak Chopra on identifying one’s higher self and how it can really make a difference in our lives. Hearing that inner voice is an experience many spend their whole lifetime searching to find. Living within my true self is something I personally work hard at all the time.

It’s so easy to be driven off-course by the external world, whether that’s social valuations like money and power, or the voices of other people in our lives- who frequently burn a lot of energy making sure we hear them (rather than ourselves). Usually, those people don’t hear their true selves either, and we are just getting caught up in the throes of their own personal struggle.

One take-away for me from this piece is what I have also heard echoed by Byron Katie: whatever brings you peace is truth. When it’s hard to “hear” your inner truth, sometimes all you have to go on is your gut. And, when that’s in peace, you’re sitting with your higher self.

The greatest spiritual secret in the world is that every problem has a spiritual solution, not because every prayer is answered by a higher power, but because the true self, once discovered, is the source of creativity, intelligence and personal growth. No external solution has such power. The true self is the basis for being deeply optimistic about how life turns out and who you really are, behind the screen of doubt and confusion. The path to it isn’t simply inspiring; it’s the source of solutions that emerge from within.
